Antifascists demand that May 8 become a holiday in Germany by John Spohr

https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2020/05/08/18832925.php

Former German President Richard von Weizsäcker spoke out in favor of interpreting Germany’s military defeat as a liberation and postulated that May 8 was a “gateway to the future”. The real goal is a nationwide public holiday, as demanded in the petition. The Berlin Senate could also lobby for such a gesture, that May 8 be considered the day of liberation from National Socialism.

“Radical reforms are needed. The policies of the last forty years must be reversed. The government must play a stronger role in the economy. It must no longer regard public services as costs but as investments. It must find ways to make work less precarious and less insecure. Redistribution is back on the agenda. The privileges of the rich are once again under scrutiny. Policies such as wealth tax, which were recently considered madness, must be reintroduced.”

Surveillance is accepted on an unprecedented scale. The virus is dangerous. But the destruction of our rights is fatal because it is permanent, Snowden believes.

“The gaps in the market-oriented health care system” is an interview with Anne Jung, spokeswoman for global health at Medico International, on the situation in the countries of the South. The corona-virus is exacerbating an international health crisis that has existed for some time.

How do you prepare for the time when the affluent society crumbles? French intellectuals have even declared a new science – “collapsology.” Solidarity is the humane and enlightened answer, not the assault rifle. Rep. Omar proposes a rent and mortgage moratorium until the pandemic fades. Landlords can find other ways to make money than rents and evictions.

The car industry before and after the Corona pandemic by Stephan Kroll and End the Climate Crisis by Christian Hofmann, April 2020

by Stephan Kroll and Christian Hofmann, April 2020

The car companies should now be converted into providers of mobility needs based on socio-ecological sustainability. Reduction of working hours – short full time of an average of 30 hours/4 days per week for all – is part of the neceesary radical change to save human lives amid plutocratic neoliberalism.

Human survival should have priority over profit maximization!
